Minneapolis Mission Accomplished!

Minneapolis Mission Accomplished! I did it!  Last week I finished an exhausting week of 13 keynote presentations in a four day period.  It was hard, but so rewarding and exciting. Some of my rewards: James, who said: Jason, if Minneapolis had a rock star, it would be you!  Ive heard your name, or about JibberJobber, every week for the last three months!  That is so awesome huge THANK YOU to all the people who continue to spread the career management message (from 2.5 yrs ago when I spoke there 9 times in three days). An attendee at my 101 Alternatives to a Real Job presentation who said: I have been wrestling with a few decisions recently, and after listening to your presentation I now know what I need to do.  Thank you!  As a speaker, that is one of the most rewarding comments I can get to know that what I did in some way touched and impacted you. Arriving early at one of my presentations and chatting with another early attendee for more than 30 minutes it was a quiet, peaceful time and we had a very enjoyable conversation.  This lady has gone through some amazing hardships, including serious family issues, serious medical issues, and job loss, any of which would debilitate any normal human being.  She strengthened me as we talked, and Im appreciative for her openness and time. Getting my first real meal on Friday morning.  No kidding.  I was running so hard from Monday through Thursday night that I had not treated myself to a real meal.  I was blessed by a bowl of cereal here, a tortilla wrap there (thanks Anne Pryor!), but it wasnt until Friday morning when I sat down in a restaurant and had a full meal.  Bonus: the friend I was with is a mentor/hero, and I was greatly inspired by the time with him. My Groupies!!  How can I not thanks and appreciate my groupies?  These are people who followed me around from presentation to presentation and said were stalking you!  I said, nah, you arent stalking me you are just my groupies!  Having people go from meeting to meeting helps me strengthen and believe in my message. Presenting to the Minneapolis chapter of the National Speaking Association this is a unique group of people NSA changed my life a few years ago, thanks to Marc Wolfsfeld who invited me.  It was cool to do a presentation, and give back, to my peers from another state!  Im always inspired when I meet other speakers and learn about how they inspire others. Its been years since Ive been in Minneapolis.  Even so, I met many people who came to my presentations years ago, and I was welcomed with open arms.  Minneapolis is cold in the winter, but the hearts of the people I met with over those four days warmed me to the bone. Thanks to everyone who touched my life last week, and made it possible.  Definitely a week Ill remember for a long time!  And a big thanks to the sponsors who helped pay for parts of my trip Minneapolis Mission Accomplished! Writing an Accurate Cover Letter and Resume

Writing an Accurate Cover Letter and ResumeWriting an exceptional cover letter and resume is key in finding a job. The more engaging the letter is, the better the chances are that your resume will be noticed. However, many people believe that they can simply write their cover letter and resume in the way that their employer tells them to do. This isn't always the case. The truth is that you have to write an excellent resume and cover letter, just like you would with any other type of document. But, there are certain things that you should be doing. You need to be aware of those things so that you won't be wasting your time. This article will explore what the most effective way is to write these documents.Your first step should be to determine the individual's skills and abilities. You may have had many jobs over the years, but you don't necessarily have to have had them all. You can focus on the skills that you have. For example, if you have worked in customer service, you can use tha t knowledge in your resume. You should also be careful not to forget about certain details that might make your resume appear sloppily.Ensure that you include every detail that is necessary. However, there are some details that should be left out. If you have performed a lot of technical writing, for example, you will want to leave this section out. It is important to remember that technical details are not written for a general audience.Another important aspect is grammar. Since resumes and cover letters are written to attract the employer's attention, it is important to ensure that the language used is clean and well structured. If you find yourself struggling with writing a resume or cover letter, ask a friend or colleague to read it. They can provide valuable feedback. When it comes to a resume, you need to focus on your strengths and discuss your previous work experience. You may be able to include a summary of your job history, but avoid going into too much detail. You may be b etter off just telling the employers the important details that are relevant to their needs.Once you have outlined your skills and previous work experience, you can start to think about how you can improve on these areas. It is a good idea to take notes about what you learned from your previous jobs, and then incorporate these ideas into your own resume. A lot of knowledge can be obtained by looking at past experiences. In conclusion, you should be creating the best possible impression when you write an exceptional cover letter and resume. You want your employer to notice you, so ensure that you are writing your letter and resume in the best possible way. Doing so will greatly increase your chances of being hired.

Five Ways to Kick-Start Your Working Day

Five Ways to Kick-Start Your Working Day Are you about to begin a new job? Then you’ll be expected to turn up to work looking and feeling your best. So if your morning routine involves stumbling out of bed and grabbing breakfast on the go, it’s time to make some changes. Fear not! We’ve come up with five simple suggestions to help you adopt a morning routine that’ll leave you feeling fresh faced and full of energy. 1) Sleep well the night before A recent study by the University of Hertfordshire showed that 91% of 18-24-year-olds in Britain are sleep deprived. Why does this matter? Because getting less than 7 hours sleep a night is associated with a higher risk of health problems including weight gain, diabetes and heart attacks. Even if you are sleeping for the recommended 7-9 hours, you still need to ensure that you’re getting plenty of high-quality sleep. The deep stages, known as slow-wave or delta sleep, are responsible for repairing the body, generating tissue and building bone and muscle. It’s hardly surprising that a Sleep Council report recently stated: “sleeping well is as crucial to our health and wellbeing as eating a healthy diet or exercising regularly.” So how do you guarantee a good night’s sleep? To begin with, avoid blue screens for a couple of hours before bedtime. The University of Hertfordshire’s study revealed that 78% of people are exposed to disruptive blue light from computers and smartphones before going to bed. Unfortunately, just 2 hours of using a blue light emitting device causes your melatonin levels to drop significantly, boosting your alertness. Snacking on a banana is another way to induce sleepiness, as they’re rich in carbohydrates, which can help to relax your body and brain. Alternatively, make yourself a warm milky drink, then retire to bed and allow yourself to doze off while you read. 2) Become an early bird Allowing plenty of time to get ready in the morning prevents any last minute stress. You might even have enough time to enjoy an extra cuppa when you arrive at work! However, waking up doesn’t come easily to everyone. Are you a night owl? Then you can improve the experience of early rising by opening the curtains as soon as you’re awake. Letting the daylight in tells your body it’s time to wake up by reducing melatonin, the hormone responsible for sleepiness. While you’re basking in natural light, drink a glass of water, as this re-hydrates your body, making you feel even more alert. If you really struggle with getting up early, try laying out your clothes, making lunch and even preparing breakfast the night before. 3) Boost your energy with breakfast A balanced breakfast should be nutritious and release energy slowly, to keep you going until lunchtime. Why not start your day with a healthy bowl of porridge, some muesli with yoghurt, or an omelette? If you’re really not a morning person, check out this recipe for overnight oats. Simply mix some oats in apple juice or natural yoghurt, leave the mixture in the fridge overnight and stir in a handful of chopped or dried fruit when you wake. Time-saving and delicious! If you have a little extra time, eating protein-packed beans, eggs or even fish for breakfast will give you a great start to the day, as protein contains amino acids. These help your brain to perform at its peak and release energy slowly. Not hungry first thing? Then opt for a breakfast smoothie. Pop some oats and protein powder into your blender the night before, then in the morning add your fruit and whatever liquid you fancy. 4) Get your heart rate going Exercising first thing gets your metabolism going for the day and helps you to feel clear minded. It also means you have plenty of free evenings to enjoy. Whether it’s running, swimming, dancing or working out at the gym, choose a form of exercise you really enjoy. Laying out your workout clothes the night before makes it easier to stick to your plans. If you find getting to the gym or pool tricky, there are plenty of good workout videos available on YouTube. Love pop music? Then try Casey Ho’s Pop Pilates sessions. They’re just 10-15 minutes long but intense enough to really get those muscles working. If you’re looking to increase your strength and flexibility, Yoga with Adrienne could be the channel for you. Cardio more your focus? Check out Saskia’s energetic dance workouts. 5) De-clutter your desk Clearing your work space of clutter clears your mind ready for the day ahead. Start by getting rid of any rubbish, paperwork or stationery you no longer need. Then, if your desk has drawers, use them to store essentials like pens, staplers, hole punchers and scissors. If you don’t have access to any drawers, consider adding an organiser tray to your desk instead. If you need easy access to particular pieces of paperwork, clipboards and cork notice boards are great temporary storage solutions. However, to avoid cork board congestion, make sure you file away that paperwork as soon as it’s no longer needed! Once everything has its place, it’s time to adjust your chair, move your mobile out of view and log out of social media. You’re good to go. Take our tips on board and you’ll boost your chances of having an enjoyable and productive day at work. So why not start as you mean to go on?   Anna Whitehouse writes for Inspiring Interns, which helps career starters find the perfect job, in everything from sales jobs  to marketing internships. Is a Resume Writing Service Worth Paying For?

Is a Resume Writing Service Worth Paying For?There are several reasons why it is important to find out if a resume writing service that you have chosen is worth paying for. One reason is that some of these services offer tools that can actually help your resume be more effective. A third reason is that a well written resume can get you the job.Now that we've established that a professional resume can help you land the job, let's talk about how to get the most out of a resume that is being written by a professional. First of all, if the service you have chosen has any sort of 'buy one get one free' deal, you should be aware of this and the chances of getting caught are much higher. Next, there are many techniques that you can use to ensure that your resume is crafted with care. Finally, some services even offer software that can speed up the process. It is vital that you take all of these points into consideration when crafting your own resume. It might seem like very little effort, bu t many times a professionally crafted resume will see you through interviews. Many professionals have made it their business to draft resumes that are perfect for the job that you are applying for.Resume writing services are usually associated with one of three things. These services offer pre-written resumes, they offer custom made resumes, or they can provide a lot of free advice to help you make your own resume. If you have never had a resume written before, it might be in your best interest to take the advice of a professional. It is the case that many services that are offering 'free' tend to over do it. They will often include a bunch of empty pieces of paper that are not necessary for any particular job. This can be very frustrating and can lead to the job seeker having to spend a ton of time and money on things like postage stamps, as well as having a large pile of paper laying around the house.By using a resume writing service, you are going to find that the work they do is done with professionalism. All of the proper formatting has been done so that you end up with a very clean, easy to read document. Additionally, you can ask the writer to throw in certain tips that will help you get an interview. If you find that a good resumé is not only the ticket to landing that job, but also the difference between a job and no job, then it is likely time to go get the help of a professional. Sometimes, it can be very difficult to find a good resumé writing service, and you may be forced to go with one that is not as skilled as you would like. It is recommended that you choose a service that offers a selection of different types of resumes, as well as including in the writing, a way to receive feedback.Resume writing services will also ask you to fill out a form after you have submitted your resume. This allows them to see what you like about your own resume and what makes it unsuitable for a certain position. This can also tell them if you have a knack for writ ing and can handle the job.

Get Paid To Interview -

Get Paid To Interview - And you thought that e-mail  inviting you to be paid to interview for jobs was spam, didnt you?   In what could be the ultimate acknowledgement that it is easier to find a job when you have a job, a startup called notchup.com arranges for passive job seekers (employed workers who are not seeking opportunities) to be paid for interviews.  Ã‚  Job seekers (who arent really passive if they sign up, are they?)  register, set a price for an interview (the site calculates a suggested fee) and wait for an invitation.   Payment relies  upon the employer agreeing that the interviewee was active and engaged in the process. If you are happy at your current job, good at what you do and NOT looking for a new job, you are notchup.coms target audience. How can companies afford to pay for interviews?   Founders Jim Ambras and Rob Ellis  explain on their site that  a candidate who would earn $100,000 annually could cost $20,000 to hire using a recruiter.   If that same organization selected a hire from a pool of 10 people paid $500 each to interview, the company can save $15,000. The AP reports that founder Ambras, former vice president of engineering at the search engine AltaVista said, In every job Ive had, Ive had to, under time pressure, build a team of engineers. I learned years ago that the best people you want to hire are the people who arent in the job market. The over 10,000 registrants and potential notchup.com candidates may be interested in reading about potential privacy issues  they may encounter using the site.   Others may prefer to dive in with wild abandon! Keppie Careers helps active and passive job seekers!   Your resume should always be up-to-date and ready to use at a moments notice.   We also offer mock intervews.   Prepare for the job   hunt:Â
